Hua Hin is a pretty seaside town close to Bangkok, in central Thailand. Since becoming a royal resort in the 1920s, the town has grown in to a relaxing and family-orientated alternative to some of the country's more raucous locations. With a stunning beach and clear blue sea, a Hua Hin hotel really is an amazing destination for a holiday.
Royal beach
Hua Hin Beach runs from one side of the town to the other and is made up of fine white sand running down to crystal clear water and skirted by sleepy palm trees. It is basically a tropical paradise and it is hard not to spend all your time in Hua Hin luxuriating right here.
If the main beach is too crowded, as it sometimes gets in the peak summer months, at the south end of the town is Khao Takiab, a hill that dominates the skyline. On the other side of the hill, accessible on foot, is a more secluded and equally lovely beach that is perfect for swimming.
As the day draws to a close, make your way up Khao Takiab for a sunset you will not forget in a long time. If you are up for a bit of a trek, the summit can be reached on foot, though there is a regular bus service from the town.
The hill is crested by a beautiful Buddhist temple and as you gaze down on Hua Hin, you will not find it hard to work out why the Thai Royal Family chose to make this place the destination of their summer getaways.
Sam Roi Yot National Park
This part of Thailand is all about natural beauty and just 60km from Hua Hin is one of the most stunning spots in the whole country. Sam Roi Yot National Park covers an area of 98km2 and is made up of majestic limestone mountains, luscious mangrove swamps and white sand beaches.
Bird lovers will be in heaven, as the jungle here is bursting with thousands of parrots and rare tropical birds.
As if Hua Hin were not enough to satisfy any serious beach lover, Sam Roi Yot is also home to some exquisite sea and sand. Hat Laem Sala is probably the most famous of these beaches and it can be reached on foot or by boat from the park's main village.
There is a cave on the beach called Tham Phraya Nakhon that has a large hole in it allowing sunlight to shine through and vegetation to grow inside. You'll have to blink here as, for a moment, you may think you have actually died and gone to heaven.
Seafood paradise
Once back in Hua Hin you will probably be feeling a bit peckish after a day of intrepid beach exploration. Due to its seaside location, Hua Hin has some of the best seafood you will find anywhere in Thailand.
Beach Café Restaurant may have a pretty uninspiring name, but it is located right on the beach with imperious views and mouthwatering food. La Paillote in town is a bit more formal and serves French food alongside traditional Thai dishes. This is the perfect location for your last meal in Hua Hin, as you bid farewell to an unforgettable holiday.
