Hotels in Gleneagles

Gleneagles, near Auchterarder in Perthshire, is the Scottish home of international golf. The area is also rich with history and countryside pursuits. The Gleneagles Agreement, a movement to oppose apartheid in South Africa, was signed here unanimously by the Commonwealth of Nations in 1977.

Things to do in Gleneagles

Get to know a bird of prey at Phoenix Falconry. The town's name has no connection to eagles, but here you can learn about 21 different species of bird. Choose from over 60 trained falcons, hawks, eagles and owls to experience falconry with.

There are more animals to see at the Gleneagles Equestrian Centre, with 26 horses and ponies. The centre offers introductions to the game of polo.

Try some sports – or a spot of relaxation – at the Gleneagles Hotel and Spa. You can go fishing or clay pigeon shooting, stay indoors at the tennis court or go off-road driving. At the spa, enjoy Ayurvedic massage, hydrotherapy, reflexology and beauty treatments.

In Crieff, around eight miles from Gleneagles, you can take a tour of the Famous Grouse distillery. A trip to Scotland is only complete when you've sampled some of its world-class whisky.

Golfing

The Gleneagles Hotel's grounds include three of Scotland's best golf courses. The Ryder Cup and the PGA Tour have been held here.

Golfers of all ability levels – even complete beginners – are welcome.

The PGA National Golf Academy for Scotland is also based in the Gleneagles area. You can drop in for a go on the practice greens or the 320-yard driving range.

Discover Scotland

Take a 20-minute drive from Gleneagles to reach Stirling Castle. It's a highly important Scottish castle, renowned in the 16th century as the country's hub of arts and culture. The castle offers a fun family day out, with tours and activities just for the kids.

From Gleneagles train station, it takes just under an hour to get to Glasgow Queen Street. Trains are infrequent, yet run to Stirling, Dundee and Perth.
