Hotels in Girvan

On Scotland's western coast, Girvan is a small burgh with lots of charm. Similarly to many other UK seaside holiday resorts, it became more popular with tourists after getting its own train station. Girvan's colourful flower displays attract a lot of attention, and the local area boasts at least 20 castles to explore.

After getting the ferry to Scotland from Northern Ireland, a stopover in one of Girvan's hotels can be quite convenient.

Things to do in Girvan

The pace of life in Girvan is that bit more relaxed. Entertain the kids at Lawrence's Amusements, a traditional-style games arcade on the edge of a pedal boating lake.

The burgh has numerous historical points of interest to have a wander around. Stumpy Tower, for example, used to be a prison. Girvan is also home to the McKechnie Institute, a community arts venue.

Take a stroll along the coastline to see out to the beautiful Ailsa Craig. The volcanic island is the ‘jewel in the Firth of Clyde'. The coastal walk as far as Turnberry Bay to the north is a popular route.

Nearby Carrick Forest is criss-crossed by walking trails and mountain biking routes.

Exploring Scotland

Girvan is 21 miles from Ayr and 29 miles from Stranraer. There are also regular train services to Stranraer, to connect with the ferry over to Belfast.

From Girvan rail station you can be at Glasgow Central in an hour and a half. For a day of shopping or taking in the big city sights, it's a convenient way in and out.

If you're on a driving holiday, a trip down the A77 from Girvan will get you along the coast to some of Scotland's bigger towns. Carry on north past Ayr to reach Glasgow Prestwick International Airport.

Girvan has a number of recognisable big chain shops and supermarkets. You'll never feel cut off from the essentials and emergency items.

Pick up souvenirs of Scotland at one of Girvan's boutique gift shops. Some of them, such as Frivolity, offer gift wrapping services to keep things simple.
