Hotels in Fuengirola
Once a small fishing village, Fuengirola has become one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol.
Book one of our Fuengirola hotels and explore a vibrant town whose beaches, restaurants, bars and shops attract thousands of tourists every summer.
Beaches
Fuengirola's five miles of sandy beaches, with the promenade running along their length, are probably the town's biggest attraction. Los Boliches and Las Gaviotas are probably the most popular beaches, with the El Castillo and Torreblanca areas at the far west and east respectively the quietest. But pretty much all along you'll find good watersports facilities, bars and restaurants serving fresh fish and seafood, as well as several play areas. You can go waterskiing, sailing, pedal boating, jet skiing, windsurfing, fishing or kayaking here – Los Boliches has volleyball nets too.
Nightlife
Fuengirola has excellent nightlife, with a plethora of bars and clubs in the centre of town. The popular London Pub is one of many English-style pubs, with a terrace, a TV showing football matches and a DJ. Irish bar Pogs is a popular live music venue, where you can enjoy jazz, rock, ska, reggae, rock or blues over a cocktail and a pub meal. Afterwards, head to trendy Heaven's Gate to dance the night away or The Cavern to sing karaoke.
Shopping
The two-floor Miramar Shopping Centre, one of the biggest shopping centres on the Costa del Sol, has well over 100 shops and restaurants, as well as a 12-screen cinema. Fuengirola also has several branches of the El Corte Ingles department store, including a six-floor complex in Las Lagunas, with a Hipercor supermarket covering one floor. For the bargain hunter, the town has a large market every Tuesday, with clothes, furniture, antiques, fruit and vegetables, pottery, music and more on sale.
Culture
At the western end of the beach you'll find Sohail Castle, built in 956 by Spain's Muslim rulers. Although the castle eventually fell into ruins, it was restored at the turn of the century and is now a venue for concerts and theatrical performances as well as a tourist attraction. At the foot of the hill on which the castle stands you can see excavated stone ruins which date back to 300 BC. The Finca del Secretario, discovered in 1970, is a Roman site thought to date from anywhere between the first and fourth centuries. Here you can see the remains of a fish salting factory, a pottery and the thermal baths.
Restaurants
For homemade Mediterranean food, head to La Solana or the popular, family-run Restaurante Palangreros, which specialises in rice and noodles. Here you can try black noodle paella with scallops or black rice with cuttlefish and squid. Tapas bars include Tipi Tapas, which offers a choice of more than 100 dishes, and Crepes and Tapas, run by a Spanish woman and a French man. The restaurant offers exactly what the name suggests, and there are plenty of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options. In the daytime, head to Il Signore for an impressive variety of coffees, milkshakes, doughnuts, cronuts and freshly baked cakes and pastries.
