Nestling in the bank of Cluny Hill, this small, family-run Victorian hotel offers award-winning food and overlooks the beautiful village of Forres, between Aberdeen and Inverness. Built in 1865 and extended in 1910, Cluny Bank is a listed building at Historic Scotland. Carefully maintained, it was a private home for many years and was only recently converted into a hotel. Today the hotel offers a unique blend of modern amenities and many of its fine original features. Forres is located on the A96, within easy reach of both the Whisky and Castle trail. As the Forres Golf Course is just around the corner, Cluny Bank is also ideally situated for golfers.

Hotels in Forres

Set in north Scotland, Forres has all the charm of a rural town with interesting places to visit on the doorstep.

If you'd like to experience the beautiful countryside in the area, get out along the River Findhorn or explore the ancient woods of the Cluny and Sanquhar Hills, both steeped in history and legend.

Forres must-sees

One of the most intriguing landmarks in the town has to be Sueno's Stone. This ancient obelisk towers over 20-feet tall and was set in the ground to pay homage to a battle fought there centuries ago.

Brodie Castle is another great historic sight. Originally built in the 16th century, most of the old fortification was destroyed in a fire and rebuilt in the 19th century. Today, this grand old building still has the original tower in place.

If history is your thing, you might also be interested in visiting The Falconer Museum, celebrating the life of geologist Hugh Falconer, a contemporary of Charles Darwin.

But a trip to the north of Scotland wouldn't be complete without visiting a distillery. Dallas Dhu Whisky Distillery is no longer in operation, but you can have a wander round and see how they used to do things, or go to Benromach distillery to see a working example and have a wee dram.

Hotels and restaurants

Finding the perfect Forres hotel is easy; there are so many lovely options in and around the town. Popular places include Knockomie Hotel, the Cluny Bank Hotel and Ramnee Hotel.

When planning a night out, make sure to try some of the restaurants in Forres too. Franklin's Restaurant at Cluny Bank is a great place to sample some traditional Scottish cuisine, Mosset Tavern is popular for seafood, and Spice of Bengal is a favourite Indian restaurant with locals and tourists.

But wherever you choose to go during your time in Forres, make sure to explore as much of the town as you can to fully immerse yourself in this beautiful place.
