Hotels in Formby
The seaside town of Formby is a much loved tourist destination, with a relaxed atmosphere and café culture.
You can spend your time hopping from boutique to café on the charming streets, while making your way through the town towards the beach to take in the beautiful sea views. But originally, this little place was a thriving shrimp and cockle fishing area.
Rich in sea and wildlife to this day, much of the surrounding countryside is protected greenbelt land, and the coast has been designated as a place of scientific interest.
The top place to go to in Formby is the beach. Sandy and windswept, this beautiful setting is the perfect place to escape to. The landscape around is dotted with sand dunes, ponds, lakes and it's teeming with wildlife. And you can even see the 7,000-year-old Formby Footprints in the eroded patches of sand.
There are other intriguing places to see during your stay though. Freshfields Squirrel Reserve is a lovely little destination. Formby Hall is a grand historic building, Grade II listed and dating back to the 13th century, and Anthony Gormley's Another Place art installations are nearby.
