Hotels in Eze

Perched on a dramatic coastal cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Èze is a spectacular ancient hill settlement that offers phenomenal panoramic views of the French Riviera and is the perfect destination for a romantic break. The main sight to visit here is the Jardin botanique d'Èze, which contains many exotic plants and was founded after the Second World War. Here, you can enjoy an extraordinary vista southwestwards towards Èze Bord de Mer and the Mediterranean Sea, which is best viewed in the afternoon or early evening.

The village is also home to the beautiful Chapelle de la Sainte Croix, which is more than 700 years old, and was, for much of its existence, part of the Republic of Genoa.

Local day trip ideas:

One of the world's most majestic holiday resorts, Nice is the site of the famous Promenade des Anglais, which was built in the 19th century, when many wealthy English figures resided in this part of France to enjoy the significantly warmer, sunnier climate. You can visit the Musee Matisse, dedicated to the world-renowned artist Henri Matisse, and spend some time at the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Nice for more artistic inspiration. For the best views of the city, head to top of the Parc de la Colline du Château (Castle Hill), just to the east of the beach, where you can observe the enchanting evening light over the rooftops.

This incredibly photogenic seaside resort, which has been a holiday destination for the like of Elton John and Madonna, is more village-like than Nice, and is adjacent to one of the world's most magnificent natural lagoons. Villefranche-sur-Mer also features an attractive semi-sandy beach, and is an ideal swimming destination thanks to its sheltered location.

Monaco and Monte Carlo

See the formidable Monte Carlo Casino, which has been immortalised in countless films over the decades and has served as an exclusive entertainment venue and social space for the rich and famous since the 19th century. Visit the enchanting Prince's Palace of Monaco, explore the fascinating Oceanographic Museum, and wander through the rest of Monaco-Ville as you admire its picturesque buildings, many of which back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Where to stay in Èze
