Stunning scenery

Dovedale forms the part of the Dove Valley between Milldale and Thorpe Cloud and is home to some of the most beautiful limestone scenery to be found anywhere in Britain. Take the opportunity to cross the famous Dovedale Stepping Stones, which plot a course across the River Dove, before visiting Ilam Rock, an impressive limestone pinnacle.

Other features in the area that shouldn't be missed include a grassy promontory known as Lovers' Leap and the nearby Twelve Apostles limestone formation.

Local sights

Activities such as walking, birdwatching and climbing bring many visitors to Dovedale, but there are also numerous attractions nearby to keep visitors entertained. Pay a visit to Tissington Hall, a 2,000-acre estate at the southern edge of the Peak District, where you can wander through the grounds and gardens, and take the opportunity to visit the 17th-century hall.

Ilam Park and White Peak Estate is owned by the National Trust. Spend time discovering secret paths through the woodland before retiring to the park's tea shop for refreshments.
