Hotels in Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca area of Alicante runs down the coast for more than 120 miles. It's one of Spain's most visited tourist destinations, with a busy and vibrant atmosphere all year round. In 2006, the World Health Organisation declared the Costa Blanca to have one of the best, healthiest climates on the planet.

Costa Blanca hotels are very popular with UK tourists, so you'll find it easy to get by without a word of Spanish.

Things to do on the Costa Blanca

The name ‘Costa Blanca' – meaning ‘white coast' – was actually invented in the 1950s. The area does have wide, golden beaches, looking out onto the Mediterranean Sea in the direction of Algeria. El Paradis beach at Villajoyosa has Blue Flag status, and is a great place to try some watersports.

Costa Blanca includes the towns of Alicante, Moraira, Javea (or Xabia) and the incredibly popular Benidorm. No matter which resort you stay at, there'll be plenty going on to keep you occupied.

Spanish cuisine

There are thousands of restaurants to choose from all the way along the Costa Blanca. The area's massive tourist population is well catered for. If you're feeling homesick, fish and chips, pizza and burgers are all easy to find.

To enjoy a more authentic taste of Spain, try a tapas restaurant. These small dishes – vegeSEOSITE_LEVEL_DESCRIPTIONs, seafood, meats, olives – let you sample a variety of foods in one go. In the south of the Costa Blanca, the annual Almoradi Tapas Path is a special sampling tour of local restaurants.

Some of the Costa Blanca's towns have their own regional specialities. Denia is known for its tasty red prawns, and Jijona's Moorish Turron sweets are a real mouthful.

Shopping and souvenirs

In towns like Javea and Moraira, street markets pop up when the sun begins to set. It's worth spending time browsing through the typical souvenirs to find something more unique. Haggling is done, but not as strongly as in Turkey or Morocco. You stand a better chance if you have actually seen the item for less somewhere else.

Typical Costa Blanca souvenirs range from fridge magnets to Muscatel wine and wicker baskets. You'll never have to walk far from your hotel to find a little something to take home. Even Alicante airport has paella kits in duty free.
