Hotels in Carbis Bay
A small but popular Cornish resort situated a mile south-east of St Ives, Carbis Bay boasts breathtaking coastal views. This picturesque bay hosts a magnificent sandy beach which allows for many recreational activities such as swimming, boating, surfing, rock climbing and tennis. With such close proximity to the popular coastal town of St Ives, Carbis Bay is the perfect place for a day trip or short break.
Made popular in 1894 when Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail built the Carbis Bay Hotel, the area was an inspiration to award-winning author Rosamunde Pilcher OBE, with the hotel itself being featured in a number of her novels.
Hiking and other activities
The South-West Coast Path, a 630-mile trail from Minehead to Poole, runs through the village, along with a network of footpaths which offer stunning views of the coast – perfect for hiking.
During low tide, hikers can make their way to the RSPB bird sanctuary beach of Porthkidney Sands to encounter rare wildflowers and migratory birds. Keen eyes might also spot the wrecks of three ships which sank in November 1893 during the ‘Cintra Gale'.
The golden sands of Carbis Bay make the beach an ideal spot for families with young kids, as the sea here is perfect for swimming and paddling.
