This scenic Dumfries and Galloway village is an important ferry terminal and still provides regular ferry services to Northern Ireland's vibrant capital, Belfast. Cairnryan also overlooks the beautiful waters of Loch Ryan, and is a great base for exploring southwest Scotland's impressive rural coastline.

Stranraer

Portpatrick

Visit the charming coastal village of Portpatrick, which was originally a quiet fishing hamlet and is now best known for its annual Life Boat week celebration. Just to the south of the village are the ruins of the 12th-century Dunskey Castle, which is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument and offers wonderful views of the rocky coast.
