Hotels in Blandford Forum

Set in green and relaxed Dorset, Blandford Forum is known for its examples of Georgian architecture. It's the perfect getaway for a more serene and calming pace of life. The market town is cradled by the River Stour as it flows through the county.

The lodges and Blandford Forum hotels are a taster of relaxed country living. There are several Victorian B&Bs, still with period furnishings, as well as pub-hotels for all-inclusive stays.

The history of Blandford Forum

A fire in 1731 meant that the whole town centre was rebuilt. The influences of the Georgian period can be seen in the pretty town houses and the parish church. More recent Victorian architecture is also visible, primarily inside and behind the original Georgian facades.

The Anglican church – St Peter & St Paul – is topped with a cupola, a small dome-like structure which allows light and air in. It still includes its original galleries, pulpit, font and pews.

At the Blandford town museum, you can see artefacts from both the town and surrounding villages. Special talks are held on the first Thursday of every month. Fashion exhibits can also be seen at Lime Tree House, with activities for all the family.

Food and drink

‘Forum' is the old Latin for ‘market', and the town certainly isn't short of things to sample. The Saturday market is joined by large chain supermarkets, so you can always pick up supplies and essentials.

The Namaste Nepalese restaurant's owners are retired Ghurkhas – enjoy their warm welcome and filling dishes. It's just one of the many different cuisines represented in town. Alongside Chinese, Italian and Indian, you can also find Mexican-style food at Café SoBa.

Badger Brewery makes local beers known across the UK, such as Tanglefoot and Fursty Ferret. You can take the brewery tour at the Hall and Woodhouse Visitors Centre. Tour prices include a coffee at the start and a beer or soft drink at the end.

Things to see and do

Catch a show at The Corn Exchange arts centre. It hosts plays and exhibitions, and can be hired out for a celebration or conference.

The Great Dorset Steam Fair is held near to Blandford Forum, in Tarrant Hinton. It includes a music festival and live demonstrations of steam locomotives. The fair has been featured on Countryfile, and attracts a wide variety of people each September.
