From Billericay to London

Get on the train at Billericay station and be in central London in around half an hour. All trains arrive into Liverpool Street, for exploring trendy Shoreditch.

Exploring Essex

Billericay is a very walkable suburb, with lots of lush greenery that's well taken care of. Lake Meadows, for example, is maintained by a group of local volunteers. It hosts Billericay's annual fireworks display and a boat race.

In the middle of Norsey Wood, the Norsey Wood local nature reserve provides a protected space for numerous animals and plants. The 165-acre site is popular with dog walkers and groups of local students. It's not the only reserve in the area – Mill Meadows Nature Reserve is also a Site of Scientific Special Interest.

If the weather's a bit too dull or rainy, pop into LA Fitness gym to stretch your legs indoors. Or watch the sports rather than take part at Billericay Cricket Club or Billericay FC.

Dining and drinks

Restaurants are clustered along the High Street on the approach to the train station. Take your pick from Chinese, Indian, gastropubs, fish and chips, Thai, burgers, Italian, seafood and subs.

Bar Zero is a plush, cosy dining venue during the day and a nightclub with VIP lounge in the evenings. For non-alcoholic refreshments, the cafés along the main stretch include Café Deli 37, Slipped Discs Brown Sugar, and a branch of Costa Coffee.

Celebrity spotting

Essex has been put even more firmly on the map by reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex. Billericay has been featured on the show several times. Local schools have even banned pupils from mimicking the stars' haircuts.

Pretend the cameras are still rolling at The Rare Cow, where cast members were filmed tucking into Holy Burgers. Harry's Bar also has a TOWIE vibe, with live entertainment at the weekends.
