Hotels in Bibury
Tucked away in the Cotswolds, Bibury is a picturesque, quiet village near Cirencester, in Gloucestershire. It sits on both sides of the River Coin, with carefully preserved cottages and greenery lining each bank.
The number of Bibury hotels is impressive given the size of the village. It's a popular place to unwind and a base from which to enjoy the countryside. Most of the hotel buildings have stood in the same places since the 15th and 16th centuries.
The history of Bibury
You'll find mention of the village in the Domesday Book, and the remains of a Roman villa were found here in 1880. Painter William Morris called Bibury ‘the most beautiful village in England' when he visited.
The 17th-century weaver's cottages and relaxing water meadow are National Trust sites. The cottages on Arlington Row are recognisable from their steep roofing. You may be familiar with them already, as Arlington Row is one of the most photographed streets in the country. It's also served as a backdrop in films such as Bridget Jones' Diary and Stardust.
With so many protected buildings and points of interest, Bibury is included in the Mini-Europe miniature park in Brussels. It's one of just six places in England represented within the park.
Time for tea
Bibury is known locally for its tea houses, places to enjoy a proper British brew. The award-winning William Morris Tea Rooms are named for the artist who loved this village so much. The building's also a B&B if you want to stay longer.
You can take afternoon tea at nearby Bibury Court, a Jacobean manor set in beautiful and well-maintained gardens. It became a private club in November 2014 – guests are welcomed warmly at all times – they just need to book in advance.
