It has some amazing scenery, and within a 30-minutes' drive you can visit a variety of well-known beauty spots. ‘Beauly' spots

The area around Beauly is peppered with excellent walks for those wanting a gentle stroll or who desire something of a challenge. Glen Affric nearby is, in common opinion, the finest of all Scotland's glens and is deservedly popular with walkers. The glen begins amongst the steep mountains of Kintail, whilst further east is the beautiful Loch Affric. The middle of the glen is a National Nature Reserve, magnificently populated with Scots Pine, some of the last remains of the original Caledonian Forest. Glen Strathfarrar, 'the last of the great unspoiled Glens', is not far from Beauly. It has abundant wildlife and is fantastic for salmon and trout fishing, bird-watching, hill-walking and cycling.

Waterfalls

With a stunning mix of mountains, rivers and lochs, the Highlands are able to boast most of Britain's most spectacular waterfalls. At the end of a pleasant two-mile walk beginning at Tommich, you can find Plodda Falls, the highest and most spectacular waterfall in the area at over forty metres high. Get up close to the impressive Rogie Falls from a new suspension bridge across the Black Water River, where in August and September there's a very good chance of seeing wild salmon leaping upstream. If you visit after heavy rain or snow, you'll find most of the falls are even more sensational.

Local events

There is a wide variety of activities for all ages in and around Beauly. Every Thursday during the summer the Beauly Pipe Band and local Highland dancers take to the square in the village and provide spectacular free entertainment for all. The local atmosphere at these events need to be experienced to be believed. Perhaps you have heard of the game ‘Shinty' but never seen it played – well this could be your chance. Many of the local villages including Beauly, Kiltarlity, Strathpeffer, Inverness and Drumnadrochit all have teams and provide an exciting competitive game. During the summer months there are many Highland Games held. The events at Strathpeffer and Inverness are both well worth a visit.
