Where to go on Holiday in April

Spring has just arrived in Europe. Sunshine and temperatures are warming up almost everywhere. It's time to have fun on the beaches of Prague, Venice, Agadir and other exciting destinations. Easter often lands in April - so there's plenty of options for the 4-day weekend break - or for taking a little longer off without giving up the annual leave. For the best value breaks, travel either before or after the school Easter holidays - hotels and flights can be a bit cheaper. Here are some of our favourite places to get your spring off to a great start. Read on to find out more with our where to go in April guide.

1. Venice

If you are not comfortable with crowds, book your Venice holiday at least one week before Easter or after. Daytime temperatures are more pleasant but not too warm, that is, about 16°C. In the evening, they can fall down to 8°C. Carnevale festivities are over so the place is fairly quiet. Between the gardens and open-air cafes, you can absorb the cheerful atmosphere from a number of places such as The Giusti Palace and Garden with features dating back from the period of Renaissance. Your family will enjoy Parco Delle Rimembranze Park located on the island of Saint'Elena.

2. Lisbon

You will be celebrating freedom on the 25th of April when you visit Lisbon. It is the most important date for Portuguese where they embrace discoveries and new experiences. Planning to stay longer in Lisbon? Take day trips to Setubal, Obidos Evora and Sintra. Heavy downpours can happen they barely last more than 1 hour. There will be a lot of visitors in Alfama, Bairro Alto and Baixa. With an enjoyable atmosphere, you can plan for a golfing trip during your city break I Lisbon.

3. Madrid

While the Northern hemisphere suffers from cold, Madrid's spring starts in full swing in April. Besides the annual Madrid Marathon, you'll catch lots of cultural activities in the city organized by significant museums. It may be the rainiest month but there's nothing much to worry about. Semana Santa may take place depending on the year. If you are interested in the celebrations, be sure to visit Seville.

4. Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is said to be a jewel in the Canary Island. It has a relaxed bohemian atmosphere. Its beaches are some of the best in Europe and they entice masses of wave catchers and surfers. Here you can discover attractive parts of the island such as the Corralejo Sand Dunes. Or you could spend your April on the Caribbean-like beaches as you taste delicious local dishes.

5. Dominican Republic

At the beginning of April, the average temperatures in the Dominican Republic start rising slightly above 26°C. It is usually the last dry month in Punta Cana and the rainfall is relatively lower. This means you can hike, swim, sunbathe and indulge in water sports. Famous attractions you shouldn't miss include El Limón Waterfall, El Limón Waterfall, the City of Higuey, National Palace, Columbus Lighthouse etc.

6. Mauritius

This volcanic island of Africa is full of palm-fringed beaches and lagoons. Coral reefs surround the vast majority of the coastline. If you want to conveniently drive in Mauritius, rent a car during your stay. No matter where you book a hotel, you can cross the whole country in 90 minutes only, making your daily trips easier. Several islands are accessible through boats.

7. Prague

Are you planning your first visit to Prague? There are a few basic things you can do. Being in the city is like stepping into Disney land for adults. You can walk across Charles Bridge, explore Prague Castle or walk down to Mala Strana to see historic cobblestones and facades of ancient buildings. From jazz bars casinos, beer gardens and dance clubs, Prague's nightlife extends beyond the confines of the center.

8. Istanbul

Istanbul is the bridge between Europe and Asia hence it's an interesting place to visit. Historic buildings are all over the place, showcasing the Ottoman and Byzantine architecture. If you love partying, Istanbul is a hotspot for jazz and rock music, especially in the evening. Key touristic regions include the modern Taksim and the old Fatih town. Travelling between these two places is not a hurdle.

9. Agadir

Sitting on the southern coast of Morocco, Agadir is strategically located along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. It was once destroyed and rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake hence it is the most up-to-date city in the country. Still, it has a sense of the past. If you love adventuring away from the ocean, the warm weather of April is just perfect for sightseeing: Memoire d'Agadir museum, La Médina d'Agadir, Souss Massa National Park and more.

10. Copenhagen

Still don't know where to go in April? The shoulder season is a good time to travel to Copenhagen if you don't mind chilly weather. It is not the peak season so accommodation should not cost you a fortune. For a family fun time, visit the Tivoli Gardens which opens on April 6 and keep the amusement going until September. The architecture is quite different from Italy's. Enjoy coffee in the city, a perfect way to pass time over the weekend.
