Holidays to Cleveland
Pay a visit to eclectic and exciting Cleveland
Clevelanders don’t like to take life too seriously, which gives the city a wonderfully relaxed feel. It also means there is an array of exciting activities to explore and interesting people to meet. Sporting fanatics rub shoulders with performing arts enthusiasts and passionate musicians to bring together a fascinating mix of people. Book your next Cleveland holiday soon to experience Ohio’s enthralling northern tip.
Clearly a sports-mad city, Cleveland boasts its own American football, ice hockey, basketball and baseball teams. Plan a visit around one of their home games to take in a sport you love or to discover something new. It’s also a great way to meet the locals and immerse yourself in the culture. Boating and hiking can be enjoyed during the warmer months, but you can stay active even when the snow begins to fall. The resort at Peninsula features 88 acres of slopes for skiing and snowboarding, while nearby Strongsville boasts two rapid toboggan chutes. If you prefer to take things at a slower pace, be sure to visit the Cleveland Botanical Gardens or the Holden Arboretum.
Arts and culture
The arts are alive and well in the city, so you won’t need to look hard to find some creative inspiration. Cain Park hosts music, dance and theatre year-round, with performances held outside when the weather is warmer at the two covered amphitheatres. Cleveland Institute of Art is free to the public and its Reinberger Galleries regularly showcase an excellent selection of engrossing exhibitions. If the moving image is more your thing, pay a visit to Capitol Theatre at Cleveland West. You’ll find independent films on show and enter one of the city’s most historic buildings.
Fashion, art, food, antiques and so much more can be found at the various malls, markets and streets dotted across Cleveland. The city’s Asia Town puts on a monthly open-air night market where you can shop, eat and mingle with locals. Tree-lined Crocker Park has a sophisticated character owing to its luxury apartments and office space. High-end shops and welcoming cafés and restaurants make it a place in which you could spend many happy hours. When you’re downtown visit the 5th Street Arcades shopping centre to fill that space in your suitcase, before enjoying a bite to eat.
A certain other US destination may be better known as ‘the city that never sleeps’, but Cleveland doesn’t like an early night either. You can find a bar that plays your choice of music and party into the small hours with like-minded Clevelanders. Head to one of the comedy clubs for food, drinks and laughter or visit a wine bar for a quieter few hours.
