Holidays to Zanzibar
Situated off Tanzania’s Coast, Zanzibar is also known as the Spice Islands due to its production of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. It attracts many tourists each year due to its rainbow coral reefs, beautiful beaches, and fabulous food markets. Check out our amazing offers on Zanzibar holidays today and you too can start exploring.
A World Heritage site, Stone Town is a perfect example of the Swahili coastal trading towns of East Africa and a must-visit during Zanzibar holidays. A combination of Swahili, Indian, Arab and European influences give the town a unique character, influencing many of the old buildings here and the local cuisine. Take some time to stroll through the charming streets and bustling bazaars before sampling delicious treats at the Forodhani food market.
Chill on the beach
There are so many beaches to choose from here, from Chumbe Island with its coral reefs and snorkelling opportunities, to Mnemba Island – a tropical paradise perfect for kayaking and wind-surfing. On the south-east coast, stunning white beaches also await with palm trees and sleepy villages. Enjoy a game of volleyball, take a swim in the ocean, or relax under the shade of a banda (small shade hut) - there’s a beach to suit everyone.
Discover more of Zanzibar’s fascinating history at the Peace Memorial Museum and the Palace Museum, as well as the Old Dispensary (Aga Khan Cultural Centre) which contains a small museum. The House of Wonders (Beit el-Ajaib) is also worth visiting, with its carved doors, Portuguese cannons dating to the 16th century, and tiers of pillars and wraparound balconies. No Zanzibar holidays can be complete, of course, without visiting the Spice Plantations - you’ll find many tours available where you can discover more about the many varieties grown here, from cloves, cardamon, cinnamon, and black pepper, to turmeric, vanilla, nutmeg, and many more.
