With a southwest facing position in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, the car free village of Wengen enjoys sunny slopes and unrivalled skiing. Tourists come to Wengen for the skiing and it’s easy to see why. The ski region of Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen is family friendly, although there are numerous medium to difficult pistes for good skiers to tackle, including the world cup piste, Lauberhorn. The Jungfrau ski region is also easily accessed from Wengen. You’ll never be bored with Wengen’s 150 kilometres of runs. Feel the sun on your face as you speed down Wengen’s longest 7-kilometre run.

Off the slopes the 50 kilometres of hiking trails and toboggan runs means even non-skiers can have fun in the middle of winter. Go snowshoeing or take a helicopter ride over the snow topped peaks. Discover the beauty of Trümmelbach Falls and marvel at the waterfalls in the wild glacier gorge.

Take the train to the resorts of Interlaken and Bern for a change of scenery and to sample the quality of skiing there. Wrap up warm and make a day of it by hopping on the Jungfraujoch railway that tunnels through the north side of the Eiger Mountain to an ice palace with incredible views of the glacier. The view across the Alps is also worth the trip in the cable car 2,970 metres up to the top of the Schilthorn.

Even the après ski on a holiday to Wengen is relaxed and low key in the traditional village. There are plenty of bars and restaurants though to entertain you away from the slopes. Enjoy live music and Italian food at Sina’s or head to Tanne Bar and Rocky Café for a late night drink. Chili’s café bar has good food and is value for money. You can also make the most of the sunshine and eat outdoors at the Hotel Eiger.
