Holidays to Portocolom
The popular resort of Porto Colom is one of the most authentic and unspoiled in Majorca. This glorious sun trap doesn’t feature any of the usual forms of entertainment available in the majority of resorts. No karaoke bars here.
So what should you do on holiday in Porto Colom?
What Porto Colom holidays do have to offer is tranquility and charm in bucket loads. If you choose to holiday in Porto Colom you’ll realise that you’ve taken a step away from the tourist trap and a step towards a Spanish holiday experience. The main feature of the village is a largely untouched fishing harbour that combines both quaint Spanish custom and natural beauty. If you’re finding the pace of life in Porto Colom a little too quiet then make your way down to the large, clean beach, Cala Marcal at the heart of the village and enjoy a day sunning yourself, swimming or join in with some of the organised sporting tournaments. It’s a great chance to meet some locals and bond over a shared love of football or volleyball!
Sea taxis are available to take if you want to sample another beach or two in the local area, and connections to the resort of Cala d’Or and Cala Figuera run daily. For shopping and perusing local handicrafts try the market at the Porto Colom, or make the short journey into nearby Felanitx for the large Sunday market where you’ll find gift items, spices, fruits, vegetables or jewellery and clothes. When the sun sets on Porto Colom
Nightlife in this sleepy resort is of the dignified and traditional variety. Little cafes and bars overlooking the picturesque bay will provide delicious meals of mouth watering tapas or the freshest sea food and very reasonably priced wines and beers. The annual fiesta La Verge del Carme takes place in July and if you’re lucky enough to be around for it you’ll see a livelier side to Porto Colom, but mostly it’s one for the ‘R and R’ set.
