Holidays to Camp de Mar
Camp de Mar is quieter and less developed than a lot of Majorca’s south west resorts, and perfect for those looking for a relaxing break in the sun. With a beautiful beach and scenery and an abundance of local attractions, this resort is a good base for a family or couples holiday.
*Fiesta! Fiesta!*
There are fiestas around Camp de Mar and Andratx throughout the year and there is an agricultural and animal fair that takes place in Andratx’s central square early May.
For the active, there are six championship standard golf courses around the Camp de Mar resort and The Tennis Centre at Paguera where many world famous tennis players have trained. The resort is also an excellent spot for scuba diving, so do not miss the chance to take a boat trip from the resort to Dragonera Island. It’s called this because it resembled a dragon’s back, here you’ll find a museum and Roman ruins at Cova de se Font.
Camp de Mar features a quiet, sandy beach free from the usual crowds and a small island that can be reached by a walkway. You can also visit Ses Dones, a beach with clear, shallow water only a hundred metres from the resort. For a much bigger beach with a wide array of restaurants, bars and shops, take a trip to nearby Magaluf.
The busier resorts of Paguera and Santa Ponsa are close by, and a regular bus service runs to the capital of Palma for an opportunity for shopping and sightseeing. At the town of Andratx, you can visit the Centro Cultural that exhibits contemporary art from established and emerging artists.
For those on self-catering holidays, there is a decent sized supermarket at the top of the hill and a wide range of locally produced fruit and veg at Andratx’s Wednesday morning market. There are a number of restaurants offering Spanish and international food, and a seafood restaurant on the tiny island that can be reached by crossing the walkway over the turquoise sea.
Camp de Mar has a laid back evening atmosphere, with a selection of restaurants offering delicious local food. For something special, don’t miss the chance to see ‘Come Fly with Me’ at the Gran Casino Theatre in Sol de Mallorca. A visual spectacle featuring acrobats and dancers with the music of Frank Sinatra, this is a night out as good as anything on Broadway. There is also the chance to see the incredibly popular Els Pirates, a pirate-themed dinner and show on the outskirts of Magaluf.
