How to reach Havana

• Flight time: Flights to Havana from the UK typically take 9 to 10 hours. Virgin Atlantic offers direct flights from London Gatwick to Havana’s José Martí International Airport. If you're flying from Manchester, TUI offers flights to Varadero, around 2 hours by road from Havana.

• Transfer time: Upon arrival at José Martí International Airport, visitors can reach the city centre by taxi or private transfer in about 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic.

• Price: A taxi from the airport to the city centre costs around CUP600–700 (Cuban Pesos). Shared taxis or private shuttle services are also available. For budget-conscious travellers, public buses are available; however, they’re infrequent and not recommended for first-time visitors.

Best time to visit Havana

The best time for your Havana holidays depends on your tolerance for heat and humidity, as well as your sightseeing preferences.

• December to March is the most popular time of year for holidays to Havana. The weather is warm but not too hot, with average temperatures ranging from 21 to 26°C. Rainfall is minimal (typically 30–60mm), and there are 7–8 hours of sunshine daily.

• April to June begins the wet season when temperatures climb to 28°C and higher. Rainfall increases to 50–80mm, but you can still enjoy 6–7 hours of sunshine daily.

• July to August is the hottest and most humid time in Havana, when temperatures soar to 30°C. This is also hurricane season, but storms are relatively rare. Expect 10–12 hours of sunshine, with 60–100mm rain.

• September to November is the low season, with fewer tourists and lower prices. The weather remains warm, with temperatures dropping slightly to 25–27°C. However, this is still part of the hurricane season, when monthly rainfall averages 80–100mm.
