Offering plenty of sun and fun, plus some truly stunning scenery, the Balearic Islands are a long-standing holiday favourite. Just off the eastern coast of the Spanish mainland, the archipelago is an ideal choice for beach holidays.
And with each of the four islands offering their own unique character and culture, there’s the perfect getaway spot for everyone.Wondering which island would be the perfect choice for your summer beach trip? Check out our guide to the Balearics and find out!
The largest of the Balearic Islands, Majorca (also known as Mallorca) is home to their historic capital city, Palma, as well as a wide choice of beach resorts. If you’re travelling with the kids, places like Cala Bona, Cala Mayor and Ca'n Picafort are the ideal place to stay, while Magaluf and El Arenal combine excellent nightlife and family-friendly spots like theme parks and waterparks. More interested in discovering the local character and cuisine? Palma and quieter resorts like Pollensa are a great option for your holidays to Majorca.
Majorca’s smaller sister Menorca (sometimes referred to as Minorca) is a little quieter than its lively neighbour. But still has lots to offer for a summer holiday, including some of the finest beaches in Spain.A UNESCO biosphere reserve, much of Menorca’s countryside remains undeveloped, while diverse wildlife can be spotted in Albufera Natural Park and the Northern Marine Reserve.
Pine forests and prehistoric sites are dotted around the island, but there are also several beach resorts offering all the modern comforts. If you’re tempted by Menorca holidays, why not check out our exclusive packages for this summer? Each includes a hotel stay and return Easyjet flights, plus checked luggage (so you’ll have plenty of room for the swimsuits and souvenirs).
Arguably the clubbing capital of the world, Ibiza’s nightlife is truly legendary, with many of music’s biggest names calling into the island during the summer season (generally running from May to October).
However, while the island’s superclubs are reason enough to visit in themselves, there’s a lot more to the “White Isle” than that. During the daytime, you can choose to set sail on a boat party, explore picturesque Ibiza Old Town, Dalt Vila, or just relax on the beach and watch one of the famous sunsets.
These activities, including exploring the island's numerous hippie markets and indulging in yoga retreats, will ensure you make the most of your Ibiza holidays.
But if you’re looking to really get away from it all, check out Formentera. The smallest of the Balearic islands might be just a short ferry ride from Ibiza, but its tranquil beaches, sleepy villages and excellent snorkelling and diving sites feel like a world away. For a really peaceful Balearic break, Formentera holidays are the perfect option.
