Explore Buenos Aires

The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, has grown from a 16th century settlement into a modern metropolis that’s home to three million people. However, despite the city’s impressive skyscrapers, you’ll still find classic, European-style architecture throughout the city, including the historic Plaza de Mayo square. The city grew rapidly in the first half of the 20th century, and is now divided into 48 neighbourhoods, including the colourful La Boca, the newly redeveloped Puerto Madero – the city’s historic port, which is now home to a great selection of restaurants - and the hip Palermo, filled with inviting bars and shops. And if you’re looking to experience the local culture on your holiday to Argentina, take a trip to the theatre district in Tibunales and see the imposing Colon Theatre, or maybe even try a tango lesson in one of the historic ballrooms of Villa Urquiza. Take in the scenery

Stretching along South America’s southern coastline, Argentina is a land of extremes, being home to both the highest and lowest points on the continent – standing at almost 7km tall, Cerro Aconcagua is the tallest mountain in the Americas, while Laguna del Carbon sits more than 100m below sea level. The country’s climate can vary dramatically too, from the extreme heat of the Cuyo region’s deserts, to the cool and temperate Andes mountains and the vast plains of Patagonia (which is home to both a surprisingly large population of Welsh settlers, and a colony of cute penguins). If you’re looking to take in some incredible scenery on your holiday to Argentina, then the Iguazu Falls, found on the Brazilian border, and Patagonia’s majestic Perito Moreno Glacier are must-sees.
