Doha for sun, sea, sand and sport

Doha Corniche

The expansive waterfront promenade on Doha's waterfront, the Corniche, extends for four and a half miles in a horseshoe shape around the bay. As you walk along its length you'll encounter beautifully maintained parks and gardens, prominent government buildings as well as museums and a library. And when you've finished your waterfront stroll, why not take a cruise on the turquoise waters of the Arabic Gulf? Board a dhow, a traditional sailing boat, and see the city from a different perspective as you recline on comfortable cushions

Desert sea

Travel over sand dunes to the point that separates Qatar and Saudi Arabia and where desert meets inland sea - Khor Al Udeid (the Inland Sea). This desert phenomenon sees the tide rise and create what appears to be a lagoon, complete with a coastline made from banks of desert sand.

Doha Fort

A reminder of old Qatar before it was modernised, Al Khoot Fort (Doha Fort), close to Doha Corniche, was constructed in 1927 and has been used as a prison, among other things. This impressive city landmark now houses a museum.

Sporting chance

Doha lends itself perfectly to a range of relaxing activities such as playing golf at Doha Golf Club, taking a fishing boat trip or simply casting off from a rocky stretch of coastline. Race events are very popular in the city, including horse racing, and camel racing, which you can enjoy at the race track in Al Shahaniya. Watch a local game of football and experience the unique atmosphere as the sounds of insistent drums and Arabic chants ripple around the stadium. And then there are the various water sports that are easily accessible, including kite-surfing, kite-boarding, wake-boarding, water-skiing, sailing and so much more.

Eating, drinking and nightlife

IDAM, is a fairly new addition to Doha's range of restaurants and it has quickly become a city staple. Its French haute-cuisine gives you the opportunity to dine on lemon and gold caviar, roasted blue lobster and camel steak. Whatever you choose, you'll enjoy the ambience and service of this sophisticated eatery. For delicious sushi and other delights, try Spice Market where the friendly, attentive staff will do their best to ensure you enjoy your meal.

Bars and lounges abound in Doha. Qube is the largest nightclub in the city and features a spectrum of music from hip-hop and house to Indian music. Seven is an uber-chic affair with a glacial white interior that is illuminated by subtle low-key lighting. Here you can be one of 700 clubbers, dancing the night away. And for great jazz acts straight from New York, an evening at Jazz at the Lincoln Centre is a must.
