Turquoise waters and palm-fringed beaches

When it comes to describing a true tropical paradise, the Bahamas really do have everything to tick every box.

The locals are friendly, with a welcome as warm as the climate. Speaking of which, you can expect great temperatures all year round, with a wet season running across the summer in the northern islands, which is similar to neighbouring Florida.

During your trip, you'll get the chance to shop at sophisticated malls and discover buzzing cities, not least being the capital, Nassau. Sample fresh seafood and Bahamian dishes with a South American twist, and visit top tourist attractions like Aquaventure Waterpark.

Flights to the Bahamas generally go to Nassau, although there are a few other airports scattered throughout the islands.

Landscapes and wildlife

One of the best things to do while you're there is to get out and explore the breathtaking landscapes, beaches and waters.

Along the way you'll discover various crab species, parrots, and exotic reptiles. But perhaps the best way to see a magical side to the Bahamas is to go diving or snorkelling. This gives you a close up of the colourful coral reef, and the sharks, dolphins, and fish that live there.

On beaches like the famous Cable Beach, you can relax on white sands under blue skies, looking out over azure waters. Or further inland, discover lush areas like the Garden of the Groves, a picturesque botanical garden with waterfalls and lagoons.

Festivals and places of interest

There are plenty of cultural hotspots to visit in the Bahamas, not least the National Art Gallery set in a beautiful colonial villa, or have fun at the theatrical Pirates of Nassau museum. You could even spend some time in Atlantis Casino if you'd like to mix with the high rollers for an evening.

The islands are known for their music and festivities too, so there's always somewhere fun to go during the evenings. Calypso, Soca and Junkanoo are just some of the local music styles you'll be sure to hear during your wanderings. And you can really experience the musical culture in full swing during festivals like the Junkanoo street parade on Boxing Day.
