Information about flights to Aalborg

Aalborg is a university city in the north of Jutland, Denmark, and is the fourth most populous city in Denmark with around 131,000 inhabitants. With its recently developed waterfront, numerous beaches, theme park and zoo, Aalborg is an ideal family destination.
Getting there
Flights to Aalborg from Birmingham and London airports typically take between five and nine hours in total including one or two stop-offs at either Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Amsterdam or Zurich. The airport is situated only six kilometres from the centre of Aalborg and accommodates more than 16 daily flights to and from Copenhagen.
Sightseeing
The CityCircle bus is free, and takes you all around the city, giving you a great idea of what’s around – what better way to begin your stay? If you take a guided tour of Aalborg Monastery, you’ll find fine frescos from the period of 1512 to 1520 and hear great stories from the times when monks and nuns were living there. The atmospheric Lindholm Høje, 15 minutes north of central Aalborg, is a Viking burial ground where you’ll see nearly 700 well-preserved graves from the Iron and Viking Age. The adjoining Lindholm Høje Museet has factual displays and murals speculating on how the people of Lindholm lived.
Animals and nature
If you love nature, Aalborg is the city for you. At Aalborg Zoo you can see lions, orangutans, polar bears and more, and there are plenty of nearby forests, beaches and parks. Aalborg Open Air Swimming, to the west of the city centre, offers both fjord and pool swimming, and you can either jump in the fjord or the pool, which has four diving boards, one at an impressive ten metres. With a large paddling pool, playground and lifeguards, it makes for a perfect family day out.
Amusements
Close to the beach, you can find the amusement park Faarup Sommerland, which caters for all ages and has everything you need to have a great day out. Choose from the 4D cinema, bumper boats, canoes, Colorado River, wet racer, surf hill and much more!
Restaurants
Hands down both the best and priciest restaurant in town, sleek Mortens Kro is owned by celebrity chef Morten Nielsen. In this stylish, well-hidden place, you could be eating Norwegian lobster soup, home-smoked trout and salmon, and cherry meringue with raspberry sorbet. Book ahead and dress to impress. Morten Nielsen is also the chef behind the excellent restaurant at the Utzon Center – a great place to go for top-shelf smørrebrød, tapas or weekend brunch. There’s also an excellent global wine list and excellent affordable lunchtime offers.
