Description

Venue: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market    When: Daily

The traditional and colourful floating markets in Thailand are an absolute must-see. The Damnoen Saduak market in Ratchaburi is the less-touristy alternative to the over-commercialised Bangkok version.

More for the locals' sake of buying and trading than for the benefits of tourists, the bustling market provides an insight into authentic Thai life. The market is a labyrinth of narrow canals congested with small, wooden boats, paddled mainly by female traders dressed in mohoms, traditional indigo-coloured farmer's shirts, and conical straw hats. Boats are laden with fresh products consisting of fruits, vegetables, and spices picked fresh that morning from the local farms.

Boats can be hired for observing villages and homes along the canal.
