Description

Venue: Sri Mariamman Temple    When: Daily

The beautifully decorated Sri Mariamman is Singapore's oldest and most important Hindu temple and can be found in Chinatown. The goddesses honoured here are the mother-goddess Devi and the rain goddess Mariamman, and it is also the venue for the spectacular Thimithi Fire Walking Festival.

First settled by immigrant Chinese soon after Singapore's founding in 1819, Chinatown is regarded as the cultural heart of the city for the Chinese in Singapore. There are still many traditional Chinese shops and restaurants in the area, as well as historical landmarks such as the Sri Mariamman.
