Held at the confluence of the Gombak Rivers which gave the city its name, the Central Market opened its doors in 1936 as Kuala Lumpur's main fresh produce market. More recently, when three new markets in the suburbs threatened its primacy, the authorities allowed the renovation of the site into a "cultural and festival market" and, once again it has become central to the city's shopping needs. - Petronas Twin Towers Sky Lobby
Topped out in 1998 and officially opened in 1999, Kuala Lumpur's 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers together form the one of the world's tallest buildings - standing a resplendent 1483 feet (452 metres) high. American architect Cesar Pelli created this beautiful building with obvious Islamic influence, including curved and pointed bays to create a scalloped facade emulating temple towers. Designated a Marine Park in 1977, Sabah's Turtle Islands Park is a paradise based on three islands - Selingan, Gulisan and Bakkungan Kechil - north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea. Known particularly for being the breeding, nesting and hatching grounds of not one but two species of turtle - the Greens and the Hawksbills - the park is also ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving.
