Description

Venue: Petronas Twin Towers Sky Lobby    When: Daily; not Mon

Topped out in 1998 and officially opened in 1999, Kuala Lumpur's 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers together form the one of the world's tallest buildings - standing a resplendent 1483 feet (452 metres) high. American architect Cesar Pelli created this beautiful building with obvious Islamic influence, including curved and pointed bays to create a scalloped facade emulating temple towers. Visit the sky-lobby, 41 floors up, for stunning views of the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur.

The identical towers are linked by a bridge at the 41st floor, where the sky lobby acts as a transfer point for the double-decker elevator system. At the base of the towers there is a shopping centre and the Petronas Philharmonic Hall, home of the newly-formed Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. The tower complex is set in nearly 70 acres of public parks and piazzas.

Built of high-strength concrete and supported by 75-by-75-foot concrete cores and an outer ring of widely-spaced super columns, the towers encompass an impressive 14,000 to 22,000 square feet of column-free office space on each floor. There is also a curtain wall of glass and stainless steel sun shades that acts to diffuse the intense equatorial light.
