The Museu de Arte de São Paulo is home to one of the largest and most important collections in the southern hemisphere, ranging from classic European artists such as Rafael and Ticiano to the contemporary works of Diego Rivera and Wiig Hansen.
The museum was founded by two important businessmen and intellectuals, Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi. It first opened in late 1947, and the collection was moved to this purpose-built establishment in 1968.
