Two-thirds of Brazils population lives near the coast, meaning that life is a beach for locals and tourists alike. People are the essence of the country, and while Brazil is home to a multitude of ethnic groups of varying economic status, there are some characteristics that everyone shares energy and passion. Its not all reserved for football either; Brazilians enjoy a good party whatever the circumstances.

Rio is the hottest of destinations, particularly around Carnival time. Dancers gyrate, the music beats and the summer temperature rises. Almost anything goes. Bodies of all ages, colours and sizes don the very minimum in beachwear and idle away the days on the sun-kissed Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Volleyball, swimming and people-watching are but a few of the activities in which you can indulge.

Brazils landscape is as diverse as the people who inhabit it. A rich colonial history exists, and the town of Parati is an exquisite example of eighteenth-century Portuguese architecture. The jungles and rivers of the Amazon, home to lush vegetation and exotic wildlife, incite notions of exploration amongst the intrepid, while the thundering Iguacu Falls are simply a spectacular wonder. Brazils massive assortment of people and places renders it ripe for choice.
  • Rua Teixeira de Melo
Located on the Farme beach block in Ipanema (Rio's gay beach spot), Rua Teixeira de Melo is the city's gay centre, a hangout for everyone from professionals, actors and fashion victims to models, Barbies (muscly gay men), lesbians and fag hags. Numerous cafés, bars and nightclubs offer theme parties and DJs.
  • Mercado Municipal
The Mercado Municipal, with its ten-metre high roof, is São Paulo's main market. The building was opened in 1933 and is notable for its impressive architecture, particularily its enormous stained glass windows. It offers an extensive array of food and is one of the few places where out-of-season fruit is available. Although it is open most of the day, it is best to visit in the morning to catch all the action and atmosphere.
  • Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon Rainforest contains thousands of different species of birds, hundreds of reptiles, mammals, insects and countless plants and trees, many of which are unique to the region. Huge, lazy rivers flow into secret lakes, untouched over thousands of years and surrounded by the dense green vegetation of the jungle. It is the most breathtaking natural wilderness on the planet.
  • Museu de Arte de São Paulo
The Museu de Arte de São Paulo is home to one of the largest and most important collections in the southern hemisphere, ranging from classic European artists such as Rafael and Ticiano to the contemporary works of Diego Rivera and Wiig Hansen.
  • Teatro Municipal
Built in 1911, the Municipal Theatre plays an important role in the cultural life of São Paulo. The building hosts operas, concerts and ballets, with performers from all over the world.
