Planned as far back as 1958 under Eisenhower, but not actually opening until September 1971, the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts commemorates both Presidents and is one of America's foremost cultural institutions.
The Eisenhower Theater is the major theatre space, seating 1100. The Center also encompasses the 2450-seat Concert Hall (home of the National Symphony Orchestra), the 2200-seat Opera House - home of Washington National Opera, the 500-seat Terrace Theater and the 400-seat Theater Lab. The American Film Institute Theater, seating 210, is also contained within America's national home for the arts.
