Description

Venue: Central Park    When: Daily

One of the most famous city parks in the world, Central Park is an enormous rectangle of green which measures 2.5 miles by 0.5 miles and extends right through the centre of Manhattan. New York's residents come here to relax and exercise.

Containing classic architecture, beautiful statues, the oldest public monument in North America, the obelisk, two skating rinks, a public swimming pool and a zoo as well as numerous different types of landscaped garden (all designed by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted), the park plays an integral role in the city.

It has hosted huge concerts by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Elton John and Dave Matthews and has even seen an appearance by Pope John Paul II, who celebrated mass here in 1995.
