There is a free Transit train, which links the North and South terminals 24 hours a day.
The airport is linked to the M23 motorway. Turn off at junction 9 and follow signs for the airport. London Gatwick is also accessible from the A23 London-Brighton Road.
Each terminal has a short-term car park with direct access to the terminals via covered walkways; these are operated by NCP (tel: (0)870 600 7050; website: www.ncp.co.uk). Long-term parking is also available in car parks further from the terminals; a free shuttle bus runs between the car parks and the terminals. Passengers can book at least 96 hours in advance; this can be done through BAA Advance (tel: (0)870 000 1 000; website: www.baa.com). Valet parking is available and operated by NCP. Chauffeured parking is also available from CPS (tel: (0)870 411 1118; website: www.parkwithcps.com). Vehicle transfer between airports, car valeting/servicing and personal chauffeuring can also be arranged through CPS.
Companies include Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Offices are located in designated car rental buildings on the Lower Forecourt Road at both terminals.
Rail: The Gatwick Express train (tel: (0)845 850 1530; website: www.gatwickexpress.co.uk) runs to London Victoria Station (journey time: 30 minutes). There is also a Thameslink (tel: (0)20 7620 6333) service, which runs to London King’s Cross (journey time: 50 minutes) as well as other London stations. Information on all national rail travel is available through the 24-hour National Rail enquiries line (tel: (0)845 748 4950; website: www.nationalrail.co.uk). Road: Limousine: Chauffeur-driven cars are provided by Checker Cars (tel: (0)800 747 737). Coach: There are more than 400 express coach service operating daily from the coach stations at both terminals. The main coach station is located on the ground floor of the South Terminal, with most services operating from here. Principal routes also stop at the North Terminal station. National Express (tel: (0) 870 575 7747; website: www.nationalexpress.com) operate most of the services. National Express no.700 coaches operate to Heathrow Airport, from both terminals. The National Express Shuttle no.025 runs to London Victoria Station. The Gatwick Flyer (tel: (0)1708 730 555) runs to destinations east of London, and coaches operate from the South Terminal station only. There are coach information and ticket desks located in the Arrivals concourse of both terminals. Information on travel to/from the airport is available thought the Airport Travel Line (tel: (0)8705 747 777).
Each Arrivals concourse has an information desk (tel: (0)870 000 2468) where multi-lingual staff are on hand to deal with enquiries 24 hours a day.
Money and communications: Both terminals have bureaux de change and ATMs. There is a post office and a 24-hour Internet café in the South Terminal. Wireless Internet connection is also available in the North Terminal. Eating and drinking: There are many restaurants, bars and cafés located in both terminals. Shopping: There are many shops at the airport, including several duty-free outlets. The airport has also recently introduced a home delivery service and a collection service. More information is available from the BAA Shopping Information Line (tel: (0)800 844 844). Luggage: Left-luggage facilities are available in both terminals. A lost property service is also operated by the Excess Baggage Company (tel: (0)1293 503 162). Other facilities: These include baby changing rooms and showers, a children’s play area, a medical centre offering vaccinations (tel: (0)1293 507 400) and prayer rooms.
There are business facilities, including telephone, fax, photocopy and secretarial services and conference and meeting rooms, at London Gatwick Hilton Hotel (tel: (0)1293 518 080) at the South Terminal and Le Meridien London Gatwick Hotel (tel: (0)1293 567 070) at the North Terminal. There is one executive lounge in the South Terminal, the Servisair Lounge (tel: (0)870 787 6877), and one in the North Terminal, the Aviance Alexandra Suite (tel: (0)1293 507 203).
Special assistance is available for disabled passengers. There are ramps and/or lifts where necessary. Wheelchair push and provision and help with baggage are also provided on request. Reserved seating is located throughout the airport, and there is also designated parking for badge holders. There is an induction loop installed in the terminals, as well as disabled toilets. Passengers requiring assistance should inform the relevant airline before travelling. Travel-Care (tel: (0)1293 504 283) provides advice to anyone who needs assistance and is located in The Village, in the South Terminal.
Airport hotels include the London Gatwick Hilton Hotel (tel: (0)1293 518 080) at the South Terminal, and Le Meridien London Gatwick Hotel (tel: (0)1293 567 070 or (0)870 400 8494) at the North Terminal. The Travel Inn (tel: (0)870 238 3305) is situated a five-minute walk away from the North Terminal. Other nearby hotels include the Gatwick Moat House, Ramada Plaza Gatwick, Holiday Inn Gatwick, Renaissance Gatwick, Gatwick Belmont and Holidan Inn Express. Take the Airport Expressway from the I-465 loop.
The airport’s car parks have space for over 10,000 vehicles. A five-level parking garage is situated immediately next to the terminal and is connected to the upper level of the terminal by enclosed skybridges on the third level and the surface parking lot can be reached by walking down Lower Terminal Drive from the lower level of the terminal. These car parks are for short-term parking; the first half hour of parking is free of charge. Long-term parking is available within walking distance of the terminal, in the Corporate Connection car park, located on the corner of Raymond Street and High School Road. Economy parking is located off of High School Road and is served by a free 24-hour shuttle service, which stops at each of the skybridge walkways at the terminal. Tiger Express Parking offers a long-term car park with a free express shuttle connection to the terminal, running daily 24 hours to each skybridge at the terminal; the car park is located off High School Road. Premier Business Class parking, at the front of the long-term parking lot, offers both long-term and business class parking served by free 24-hour shuttles to/from the terminal.
There are seven car hire companies at the airport. On-site companies include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Car hire desks are inside the terminal, on the lower level (Arrivals); cars can be picked up on Lower Terminal Drive. There is also a car hire phone bank in Arrivals for off-site companies.
The ground transportation centre is located at the lower level of the parking garage where passengers can make limousine, hotel courtesy vehicle and bus connections; information on schedules, routes and prices is available here. Road: Taxi: Taxis leave from the terminal side of Lower Terminal Drive; passengers can call a taxi by pushing the taxi call button located in the taxi area. Limousine: Shared-ride limousine services and luxury limousine services both leave from the ground transportation centre. Limousine companies include Affinity Limousine & Tours (tel: 317 870 5466), Carey Indiana (tel: 800 888 4639 toll free USA and Canada only) and Hoosier Limousine (tel: 317 248 8879). Bus: The city bus service, operated by IndyGo (tel: 317 635 3344; website: www.indygo.net) serves central Indianapolis and picks up from the courtesy vehicle island just outside the ground transportation centre and opposite the Northwest and Midwest Connect baggage reclaim areas. There is a bus service to Champaign and Urbana operated by Lincoln Land Express (tel: 217 352 6682), a bus service to Bloomington and Indiana University operated by Bloomington Shuttle Service (tel: 800 589 6004 toll free USA and Canada only) and a service to Lafayette and Purdue University operated by Lafayette Limo (tel: 765 497 3828).
The airport has an information centre (tel: 317 487 7243; TDD: 317 487 5151) located in the central ticket area.
Money and communications: There are ATMs and a bureau de change on the upper level. Telephones are situated throughout the terminal. Eating and drinking: The airport has a variety of full-service and fast-food restaurants, bars and coffee shops in the food court, which sell US, Mexican, French and Asian cuisine. Restaurants, snack bars, fast-food outlets, coffee shops and bars are also situated on the concourses. Shopping: The airport also has a wide range of retail outlets, including a bookshop, sunglasses shop, leather goods shop and sweet shop, located on the upper level food court and retail area; newsagents and gift shops are located on each concourse. Luggage: Baggage reclaim is on the lower level of the terminal. A luggage delivery service is available on the lower level (Arrivals). Other facilities: These include game rooms, a barber shop, shoe shine, and a petrol station within the airport grounds, with petrol pumps, a food shop, a fast-food outlet and car wash.
The airport has a board room for hire (tel: 317 487 7243). A club room is available from US Airways, located on concourse D. Conference rooms and business facilities are available at the Holiday Inn Select Indianapolis Airport (tel: 317 244 6861), located within the airport grounds. The hotel offers a full business centre with PC, printing, fax and photocopying, as well as 15 meeting rooms accommodating up to 670 delegates. Audiovisual equipment and videoconferencing are available. The Radisson Hotel Indianapolis Airport (tel: 317 244 3361) has 11 meeting rooms, a grand ballroom, four rooms for small gatherings, an executive boardroom seating 14, and parlour suite meeting rooms. Telephones throughout the terminal are equipped with fax machines and data ports for Internet connections.
The airport has ramps and lifts throughout the terminal and concourses. It is also equipped with TDD telephones and disabled toilets and telephones. Assistance with wheelchairs can be sought from the information centre, from individual airlines themselves or from Skycaps check-in porters; passengers requiring special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel. Disabled parking is available.
The Holiday Inn Select Indianapolis Airport (tel: 317 244 6861) and Radisson Hotel Indianapolis Airport (tel: 317 244 3361) are located in the airport grounds. A free shuttle bus transfers passengers from the airport to these hotels. The Adam’s Mark Hotel (tel: 317 248 2481; website: www.adamsmark.com) is located 2km (1.2 miles) from the airport on Executive Drive. Hotel courtesy vehicles also pick up at the courtesy vehicle islands; hotel information boards in baggage reclaim areas display hotel shuttle information.
