The Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is sandwiched on Merritt Island between the Indian and the Banana Rivers. Judge your visit right and there's a chance you'll get to see a shuttle launch. Every other day of the week you can spend at least a day exploring the Visitor's Center which is filled to capacity with space-related exhibitions, film presentations, memorabilia and the odd spacecraft. As the KSC is a working facility, you can't wander around indiscriminately but you will get some opportunities to see what goes on behind the fences on a day-to-day basis.
You can visit the area where sections of the International Space Station, due for completion in 2003, are being put together. A journey that can take seven hours. Meanwhile in the Rocket Garden, a sort of elephant's graveyard of space debris, you'll find the spent rockets that have played a part in the US space race.
