Description

Venue: Fairchild Tropical Gardens    When: Daily

This 83-acre Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami is one of the largest in the world.

The garden was established in 1938 by Col Robert Montgomery and named in honour of David Fairchild, the maverick American explorer. Its original purpose was to collect, document and study tropical plants from around the globe. Emphasised horticulture includes palms, cycads, flowering trees, vines and fruit trees.

The garden is open all year round, and hosts an annual International Mango Festival in July, with displays, exhibitions, workshops and tastings. In addition, a two-acre outdoor exhibit of tropical plants from around the world - the Rainforest exhibit - was completed in summer 2000.

The Gardens' comprehensive website has a full list of events that take place throughout the year.
