Lake Tahoe has long been renowned with the American cognoscenti for its matchless ski resorts, its majestic mountains, its abundant snow and its stunning Alpine lake (the largest in America). Skiing Lake Tahoe has to be one of the most unique winter experiences. Driving between them for daytrips is a popular way of maximising ski variety. Overall, the skiing is challenging, with more than 500 runs to delight every grade of skier of boarder. The region is also unusually blessed with dramatic snowfalls of up to 15 metres every season. At the same time, the slope orientations means that most areas receive above average sunshine hours.
