Banff is a bustling, friendly little town set in the beautiful Banff National Park - home to abundant wildlife and stunning scenery. Canada is well-known for its hospitality and Banff is no exception, with a wide variety of bars, live music and a good choice of restaurants. The bustling town itself is the gateway to three very different ski resorts, collectively marketed as Banff-Lake Louise. The biggest and best-known is Lake Louise - 35 miles away along the Trans-Canadian Highway. Sunshine Valley and Mount Norquay/Mystic Ridge are the other two areas. Those in-the-know often recommend staying in the vibrant town of Banff and visiting a different ski area each day. All three ski resorts are handily covered on one lift pass.
The region overall has some of the highest, most snow-sure slopes in Canada, and a correspondingly long season. Skiers and boarders will usually find excellent powder, challenging runs and great beginners' slopes. This makes Banff and surrounds ideal for all standards of winter sportsmen.
