Luxor, home to over a third of the world's greatest antiquities. From the City of the Dead on the West bank of the River Nile in Luxor to the temples on the East the sights will never cease to delight. The state of preservation of all the monuments is truly outstanding. The colours remaining on the tomb walls on the West Bank are spectacular and vibrant and appear as if they were only painted yesterday. Karnak and Luxor Temples on the East Bank stand proudly overlooking the river. Combine a stay in Luxor with Cairo, Aswan or Hurghada. Transfer time from Luxor airport is approximately 30 minutes

  • Temple of Karnak
The monumental temple complex of Karnak is still, after 4000 years, the largest and one of the most impressive religious structures in the world.
  • Valley of the Kings
This famous necropolis, resting place of dozens of the ancient rulers of the kingdom of the Nile, contains the cursed tomb of the most renowned of all Pharaohs, the boy-king Tutankhamun.
  • Temple of Khnum at Esna
Located about 50 kilometres south of Luxor in the small town of Esna, the Temple of Khnum was one of the last to be built by the ancient Egyptians.
  • Luxor Bazaars
Luxor is not famous for its shopping scene, but if you fancy a break from ancient monuments, the town's colourful bazaars are a good bet for a spot of retail therapy. Numerous small shops offer everything from carved wooden statues and jewellery to hand-woven rugs, perfumes and spices and, of course, the famous local alabaster. Pick up traditional Egyptian papyrus too - it is genuine if it doesn't split when rolled.
  • Luxor Museum
Located between the Karnak and Luxor temples, Luxor Museum has small but exquisite collections of pottery, jewellery, furniture, statues and stelae from the Theban temples and necropolis.
