Description

Venue: Cardiff Castle    When: Daily

Cardiff Castle is situated in the heart of the capital and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Wales.

The castle dates back almost 2000 years to the arrival of the Romans in the first century AD. The keep was built after the Norman Conquest, followed by a number of Medieval fortifications and dwellings. By the 18th century the castle was in the possession of the Bute family.

From 1866 the 3rd Marquess employed the great architect William Burges to transform the castle's lodgings. Within the gothic towers he created opulent interiors, lavishly decorated with murals, stained glass, marble, gold leaf and wood carvings.

As well as perusing the impressive interiors, visitors can also enjoy a stroll in the castle grounds, while the tea rooms offers coffees, light lunches and afternoon tea.
