Description

Venue: Burrell Collection    When: Daily

The Burrell Collection consists of a collection of 8000 precious objets d'art which formerly belonged to the millionaire shipping magnate, Sir William Burrell (1861-1951). Upon his death, he bequeathed it to the city of Glasgow and it is now housed in Pollok House surrounded by 1,000 acres of parkland belonging to Pollok Park.

More than 600 pieces from Burrell's precious stained glass collection have been worked into the exhibition building, which has one wall made entirely from glass to allow visitors to gaze at the thick woods beyond.

Paintings by Degas and Cezanne and a Rodin sculpture rub shoulders with Chinese ceramics, Japanese prints and Anatolian rugs, medieval needlework, tapestries and silverwork. Truly an extraordinary visitor experience, it allows a glimpse of "one man's choice from the whole world of art history".
