The Armathwaite hotel is set amongst the breathtaking landscape which was an inspiration for William Wordsworth and remains a source of creativity for talented local artists, poets and craftsmen. Magnificently set in the secluded splendour of 400 acres of deer park and woodland, bordered by the beauty of Bassenthwaite Lake and framed by the dramatic Skiddaw Mountain and fells, the hotel is as romantic as the surrounding countryside.

One of the original Stately homes of England, famous novelist Sir Hugh Walpole wrote of it "a house of perfect and irresistible charm". PLEASE NOTE: For dinner (in the evening) the dress code is smart dress no jeans, trainers, or t-shirts are allowed.

Excellent location, couldn't be better.Had a double room which was a bit tight for space and the tv in the bathroom didn't work.other than that staff were great.meals were excellent and service second to none.Would definately return for a weekend of opulence.

Very nice and plush hotel. The standard of maid service in the rooms was excellent but they could have improved by giving more information on arrival (for example about where the lounges where / where the swimming pool was etc)and when you sat in the lounge the service was very variable and you often had to go to reception to order drinks and food when a waiter was in the room (he refused to take my order when clearing away plates which I found a bit odd). The food was excellent and the real fires and views were spectacular. We would go back. Generally I would give it 9/10 and recommend it for a special weekend break

The bedrooms were much smaller than I would expect for a Hotel of this standard. However the food was fantastic.

The hotel was fantastic - in a wonderful setting. From the moment we arrived to when we left we were treated brilliantly - the staff couldn't do enough to help and they helped to make our stay perfect.
