  • Wallington House
Guarded by four fearsome stone griffin heads, Wallington House - ten miles west of Morpeth - is one of the finest historic houses in Northumberland, as well as the venue for much-loved summer concerts.
  • William Turner Garden
The William Turner Garden in Morpeth's splendid Carlisle Park celebrates the "father of English botany." Nestled on the south bank of the River Wansbeck, this modern-take on a medieval knot and physic garden includes herbs and boxed hedges as well as plants that would have been introduced in Elizabethan times.
  • Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum
For those that think that bagpipes are peculiarly Scottish, think again. Just south of the border there is a tradition for similar instruments that keep the drone bag full via bellows (rather than the Scottish requirement for constant top ups of air from the player's lungs). These are the Northumbrian Smallpipes and at Morpeth's restored Chanty you can find out all about these distinctive and fascinating instruments.
  • Bailiffgate Museum
Alnwick's new Bailiffgate Museum is housed in the former St Mary's Church, originally built in 1836, in the heart of the town near the castle. Visitors can play a medieval computer game, sing-a-long-a sea shanty (or other local songs), try on armour or even crouch down to find out what it was like to go down a Northumbrian mine.
