Description
Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London, England W1S 4BPSet in the heart of Mayfair on Albemarle Street, Brown's is one of the most historic hotels in London. Within a short walk from exclusive Bond Street shopping, West End theatres and St James's, this five star hotel was founded in 1837 to provide 'genteel' accommodation for discerning people. Brown's has always had an air of exclusivity and refinement, which it has retained following its extensive refurbishment overseen by Rocco Forte Hotels' Director of Design, Olga Polizzi.
James Brown, Lord Byron's butler opened Brown's Hotel in 1837 as London's first ever hotel and it is from here that Rudyard Kipling wrote 'The Jungle Book', Agatha Christie penned 'At Bertram’s Hotel' and Graham Bell made the first ever telephone call.

- The Albemarle: The Albemarle (formerly The Grill) is the newly relaunched restaurant at Brown's Hotel and specialises in the finest quality British cooking. Executive Chef Lee Streeton and Director of Food Mark Hix have created an outstanding menu featuring great British classics alongside many lighter fish and shellfish dishes - all using carefully sourced seasonal ingredients. With its beautiful wood panelling, vaulted ceiling and elegant green banquettes designed by the leading French designer Philippe Hurel, The Albemarle sets a new standard in glamorous, informal hotel dining.
- English Tea Room: Afternoon tea is legendary at Brown's. Ever since James Brown established his hotel for 'genteel' folk over 170 years ago and Agatha Christie enjoyed it whilst writing 'At Bertram's Hotel' here, afternoon tea in The English Tea Room has become a British institution. Relax to the sounds from the Baby Grand Piano and indulge in Brown's award-winning Traditional Afternoon Tea which consists of a choice of 17 teas, including Brown's own blend, along with succulent finger sandwiches, an assortment of delicate pastries, fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, as well as a choice of freshly baked cakes from the trolley.
Bar
- The Donovan Bar: The Donovan Bar is one of London’s most vibrant and fashionable watering holes and offers a wide range of ‘must-try’ cocktails and tapas. Paying homage to the celebrated British photographer Terence Donovan, the bar walls are lined with over 50 of his iconic black and white prints. Contemporary furnishings with wooden floors, black leather seating and dark country check banquettes provides the ideal setting in which to relax and indulge. The Donovan Bar is also home to what has become known as ‘the naughty corner’ - this banquette seating area for up to 12 guests is surrounded by some of Terence’s more risky photographs. Guests can enjoy live jazz, which is performed Monday to Saturday from 9pm to midnight. The Donovan Bar’s monthly Brazilian Bosa Nova Nights, with glamorous Brazilian singer Caru, have become one of the hottest nights in town.
