What you said
I really can't fault the hotel - it was clean and comfortable, and the gym, pool, and sauna were great for relaxing. My only quibbles are the location and the service at reception. The hotal was a good 10 minute walk from the nearest underground, and it wasn't one of the central lines. Service at the reception desk was quite poor - every time i went to speak to someone, there were several people standing around chatting, but only one or two serving, despite there being a queue.

Like most Thistle Hotels, the building, state of repair, service and location are lousy, BUT they have a GREAT gym. This (along with a fair price) is pretty much all I care about

I have expected a lot more from a 4* hotel. I could compare it to the 4* Hotel Wellington in Madrid, and the difference is huge!

Good choice of hotel for West End and central London, but don't take the upgrade offered in the hotel, its not worth it.

After booking this hotel, I read some very negative reviews and was prepared for a low standard of service. This was not the case. Excellent parking, meet and greet, booking in, bedroom, leisur and consierge faciliteis. The only negative comment was the slow service within the brasserrie which was easy enough to cope with. I would highly recommend this hotel, but warn that it is just inside the congestion zone so parking in the NCP car park as opposed to the hotel may save residents a congestion charge cost.

Excellent hotel in a good location for the city. Hotel reception was a bit difficult because the receptionist was not English and we could not understand all she was saying, and vice versa. Apart from that, everyone was very helpful including the concierge who helped us with car parking and subsequent taxis.

Things we loved about the Thistle city barbican, the pool, whirlpool, steam room and sauna. They were great 4* quality.Things we hated, the pool and all that stuff close at 8pm and we had to go outside to get into the part of the hotel where the pool was. The room was so small you can hardly move, the bed was rock hard, they charge 50 pence a min for internet which they dont inform you about until check out,the TV didnt work, the toliet didnt flush the vent in the bathroom didnt work and was full dust bunnies,no vending machines and for 300ml of diet coke cost 2 pounds that you have to go down to the bar to buy it and the staff was stuck up and rude. The area seemed dangarous the kind where you hide your purse or wallet.

It was great. The only reason I gave it 4 for service was the rather long queue to check in. it was a bit out of the way but that's why it was cheaper. i would certainly go back.

The hotel was not close enough to any tube stations and not well enough located for sight seeing. In my opinion it wasn't up to the standard you would expect from a 4* establishment. The rooms were acceptable, but a little in need of some TLC. Staff were efficient but not particularly friendly.

This hotel is a bit of a walk from the nearest tube stop (Old Street)and the directions received with the booking weren't as clear as they could have been. Thankfully, with the help of several locals, I managed to meet my partner at the hotel. On arrival at the hotel, my partner and I had been allocated a room with 2 single beds even though we had booked for a double. However, the hotel staff were very helpful about rectifying this. The hotel's terrific Art Deco styling is confined to the lower 3 or 4 floors, so if this is something you would appreciate, ensure you aren't placed on one of the hotel's higher floors which have a much more "standard" feel to them.

Split location hotel, either side of vehicular entrance. Try to request not to be in the annexe as much lower standard of room noted. Excellent voucher system for inclusive breakfast works well.

Would not recommend this hotel for people travelling on the tube as the walk is too long (especially if you have luggage) from the station. And the location is not really in the best area. The hotel looks strangely out of place as it is modern but a lot of the close area is run down. Jamie Oliver's restaurant is very close so i'd recommend going their. The hotel itself is fine inside.

Good Hotel, but rooms quite small, and we were surprised it is 4 star. However, the staff were VERY friendly and the place was clean. Also good breakfast - friendly staff there also. The swimming pool felt a bit cold, but there was one broken window in the pool area letting in cold air - and the temperature of the water itself was OK.

Good value, but pretty far out of the city centre and a fair walk from Old Street tube. Seemed very popular over the weekend we stayed (probably due to the low price) so breakfast was hectic and we had to wait for a table. The breakfast though was remarkably good bearing in mind the number of people that had to be catered for.

The hotel was excellent and the facilities were fantastic, as well as the price! One tiny complaint was that it was booked expecting a double bed and two twins were given instead, but this was warned about beforehand so can't really complain!

there was major refurbishment in the area of the hotel where i was staying, where the whole ceiling was full of wires hanging down, and the appearance of the entire floor was particularly shabby. my room was very small for a double, with a sloping roof over the bath, making it very difficult to have a shower whilst standing

Breakfast was good.Reception staff were helpful.Room was fine, except toilet didn't flush very well.I saw trays from room service lying in the corridor in the evening.Hotel was not in a good location - quite far from tube stations, awkward to get to from Heathrow airport (3 tube changes from Paddington) so not idea for an early morning flight.

We were messed around a number of times. On our last minute request section, we added that my husband and I were on our anniversary and that we would like a romantic double room (no smoking). Instead we got a twin room on the other side of the road to where the reception of the hotle is. When we called reception, they were very unhelpfull and told us that they dont have any double rooms left and they cant do anything about it. We asked to speak to the manager and after some persuasion, he said there is a double room available, but it is a smoking room. We agreed to take this room, so we had to go all the way backto the reception to change our keys and went to our new double room, which turned out to be a non-smoking room! We had a booking at a restaurant that evening and i was planning to get dressed in the hotel. There was no iron and no hairdryer to be found in the room. We asked for one to be sent up which took upto and hour to reach us. I was very late for my booking and ended up forking out £20 for a taxi to take us there instead of getting the tube as originally planned. When we got back, my husband called reception to request a wake up call. The next morning we woke up one hour after we were supposed to because we had no wake up call at all. It was a very inconvinient stay. It was a waste of our money.

Good sized clean room, well appointed with nice bathroom. The swimming pool is quite small, but adequate. The location was further from the tube station than I was expecting (a good 15 -20 mins walk) and the service at breakfast was chaotic to say the least!

Exactly what Last Minute Dot Com is about. Honestly described and excellent value for money, this hotel provided an excellent base for some London virgins from the USA. They were extremely impressed not only with the standard of the hotel, and the excellent service, but the ease with which they could get to the heart of the City.

The rooms were extremely tiny - the smallest I have every stayed in although were comfortable and had all the necessities needed. TIP Use the bus to get into London rather then the tube as much quicker, pleasant and bus stop closer to hotel than tube station.

After we were changed to the double room we had booked from the twin we had been given, all had appeared ok. The breakfasts were of a very good quality as was the room its self. The only black cloud on the sunny horizon of my 'birthday/christmas special weekend' from my beloved was the pumping music from the bar below us, that started at 3am in the morning. Despite a call to the reception desk this still continued until 04.45 when the blissfull effects sleep depravation took hold. However we did oversleep and this did not allow us to enjoy the relaxing morning we had planned in their gym complex. Shame as we were looking forward to it. otherwise it was a very good hotel.

Hi, it was a great deal for sure. We were only annoyed when we went to the hotel and got a twin room instead of double. The booking says twin/double so technically the hotel hasn't done anything wrong but we would have liked the option made available to us. The customer services at the hotel was very kind and upgraded us to king size double room as all the double rooms were booked. A bit of a hassle in the beginning but a brilliant stay nevertheless. I am a believer in the lastminute.com and will continue booking.. All the best!

The hotel was by London standards off the deaten track a good 15 minute walk from the station. It was located in a fairly run down location. The reception area was fair but service was incredibly slow, we were 40 minutes checking in! The room was incredibly cramped even by london hotel standards and I've stayed in a few. The only saving grace was the efficiency and quality of the breakfast service; a flicker of candlelight in a very dark place!!
