What you said
the hotel looks nice on the website, and the lobby is, our room was so distgusting we took pictures and left for a travel lodge. the taxi driver said we were the 2nd people that day that had refused to stay there. our room STANK of smoke despite being a non smoking room, there was blood on the sheets and holes in the bedsheets, badly waterstained woodwork and a general grubbyness- the window blind was held together with sellotape. the porter agreed with us and said the room was "sh*t". we have written a complaint complete with pictures to lastminute.com to hopefully get our money back for the half an hour we stayed at the hotel.

The Ambassadors is a modern hotel with a young staff and a cafe style reception with coffee bar and pretty decent continental breakfast included.Rooms, particularly singles, can be small and there is no wireless networking. Bathrooms are spacious and clean. The location is excellent, whether you wish to stay in the immediate area or travel into the West End.

I can not comment on some as on arrival at the hotel mentioned we were moved to a different one - The Hogarth. Apparently there were works at the original hotel in the rooms booked via Lastminute.com and so we were unable to stay. We did get a free taxi to the new hotel which was just around the corner and I think of equal standard. This was OK but a little bit of a nuisance after walking from the tube station to the hotel to be told we had to be moved. Knowing before hand would have been better as we could have cut walking time down and gone to the next station to get there quicker. I would still use lastminute.com and can only comment that staff at both hotels were helpful and friendly.

It would be very useful to be able to choose hotels with certain features, like swimming pools, jacuzzi baths, gym, restaurants and so on. As when treating a loved one to a nice weekend, you want the room to be romantic.
