Two Nobel Prize-winning poets, Seamus Heaney and Derek Walcott, bring the world premiere of a new musical interpretation, The Burial at Thebes, to Shakespeare’s Globe. This epic Greek tragedy has been updated as a modern day investigation of politics and power and is composed by award winning Trinidad born Dominique Le Gendre, the first woman to be commissioned by the Royal Opera House, with Peter Manning conducting.

The story centres on the victorious leader Creon, who is forced to choose between his public responsibility and personal concerns and all too late realises the fatal consequences of his decisions.

Derek Walcott directs a company of over 30 orchestra, soloists and chorus to recreate the action in Heaney’s epic poem with dramatic narration in a Trinidadian Rapso style.

Seat numbers

• At present, we are unable to tell you your seat numbers when booking tickets. However, seats are allocated by the theatre as soon as you book your tickets and will be the best available at the time of booking. All seats in a booking will, of course, be together in the theatre, but in the very unlikely event of this not being possible we will call you and give you the option of cancelling your booking
