Staff Picks

I've been a fan of Blood Brothers since 1988 when it was on at the Albery Theatre and starred Kiki Dee as Mrs Johnston. It's one of those musicals that doesn't just rely on song after song thrown together with a less than believable plot. The plot is pivotal to the musical and calls on the audience to go through a roller coaster of emotions. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll go home, having had a fantastic evening... Guaranteed.

Porter's English Restaurant

16/17 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 8QH

Porter's English Restaurant Prepare to return to the good old days...

Way back when the piazza was still a working fruit and vegetable market, the seventh Earl of Bradford had the good sense to establish this fine tribute to traditional English fare. Now surrounded by all things trendy and slick, Porters remains a bastion of our culinary heritage, along with Simpson's in the Strand and Rules on Maiden Lane.

But unlike its fellow true Brit restaurants, Porters is refreshingly relaxed and child-friendly. It also has a firm grip on pricing, so its menu shows surprising value for money - an unexpected treat for all Covent Garden locals and visitors.

As to the food itself, well every dish is probably someone's favourite. Try the marvellous pies and grills, or the great wild boar and sage sausage to see what we mean. But do leave space for the super comfort-food puddings, just like nanny made.

Your meal is two course from a selected pre-theatre menu. Any additional items such as additional courses or drinks are not included.
